Front Sight

Submachine Gun Training Fun For the Whole Family!

When LA Times writer Tom Gorman went to take an interview at Front Sight and with Dr. Ignatius Piazza, he was informed of and agreed to Front Sight’s policy on press members who want to write an article on the 550-acre residential community based around twelve firing ranges: take one of our courses first. Gorman agreed to take a course and, from the sound of his article, couldn’t be more surprised by it. One might go so far as to say he was impressed by it, but he’s a columnist, a member of the press, surely he can keep opinion out of his work!

Among the courses Piazza's 95 instructors offer: the use of submachine gun training, low-light gunfights, shooting from moving vehicles and prep classes for African safaris. Some of Piazza’s clients include law enforcement officers, private security guards, hunters and recreational shooters. Some of Piazza’s course instructors include former Army officers, former police officers, former SWAT members, shooting instructors and men and women from all over the shooting world, intent on educating and empowering American citizens in the way of the gun. The firearms training at Front Sight is taught by the finest shooters on the planet and is extremely valuable.

But who receives it? All sorts of men, women and children! As Mr. Gorman discovered, even little old ladies were partaking in the submachine gun training. Among Gorman’s group was Dorothy Bowen, 63, a local resident whose late husband--a former deputy sheriff--once held his service revolver and allowed her to squeeze the trigger. On the day of Gorman’s training, she was holding her first weapon--an Uzi, of all things. "I love it!" she proclaimed during a break. "To heck with [gun opponent] Rosie O'Donnell."

As Mr. Gorman discovered, Front Sight is not a redneck village for submachine gun training, guns and gun freaks. Nor is it a bootcamp, driving students out with intimidation and drill sergeants. Front Sight is a place where Americans can get the world’s finest firearms training. And if they want, they can stick around.
